30th Iowa Medical Student Research Day to be held at
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The 30th University of Iowa Medical
Student Research Day, sponsored by the Iowa Student Medical Research Club,
will be April 13-14 in the department of internal medicine's Bean Conference
Room, SE301 General Hospital, UI Hospitals and Clinics.
Initiated in 1970 by Francois M. Abboud, M.D., professor
and head of internal medicine, the event provides medical students the opportunity
to present their own research, compete for monetary awards and receive constructive
feedback from an audience of interested faculty, staff and fellow students.
"Faculty attendance, if only to one or two presentations,
will aid our effort to add a new dimension to the medical school experience,"
said Ken Richardson, a third-year M.D./Ph.D. student and one of the organizers
of the event.
More than 30 medical students are expected to present
their basic or clinical research projects during the program. Presentations
will be given from 1-6 p.m.
A list of the students and their presentation titles is
available on the Student Research Day web site at http://www.uiowa.edu/~ismrc.
