Elder Health series kicks off with 'Living Heart Healthy'

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Connie Trowbridge and Anita Nicholson, lecturers at the University of Iowa College of Nursing, will present "Living Heart Healthy," the first program in a series called Elder Health, to be held Wednesday, April 7 at 2 p.m. at the Iowa City Senior Center and Thursday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Schwab Auditorium on the lower level of Coralville Public Library.

The first health topic will cover angina, risk factors, lifestyle changes, symptoms of a heart attack and prevention of heart disease.

Inspired by a United Nations statement declaring 1999 the International Year for Older Persons, the Elder Health series will feature national and local speakers, including UI faculty with expertise in aging and gerontology. The Adult and Gerontological Nursing area of the college and Johnson County Elderly Services, along with several UI units and community agencies, are planning the events.

Further information on future events can be found on the Web at http: //www.nursing.uiowa.edu/adultgero/cont_ed.htm or by e-mail to Karin Brunk at karin-brunk@uiowa.edu.
