More than 200 employers scheduled at UI Careers Day Sept. 24

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Representatives from more than 200 companies and organizations, the largest number of employers to attend the event in its 22-year history, will be on campus to meet with students at the University of Iowa's annual Careers Day Thursday, Sept. 24.

Careers Day will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Main Lounge and Second Floor Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU). The event is free and open to the public.

Careers Day, sponsored by the Business and Liberal Arts Placement Center, Career Development Services, and Engineering Career Services, and MBA Career Services, is designed to provide information and potential job contacts for students in all majors and at all levels of their educational careers.

"We always try to emphasize that it's never too early to begin thinking about career possibilities," said Deanna Hurst, director of the Business and Liberal Arts Placement Office. "Careers Day has something for every student, whether you are a freshman looking for internships or a senior looking for your first job."

Hurst said the increased number of companies at Careers Day, particularly in the technology and engineering areas, led to its expansion to the Second Floor Ballroom. She added that students from outside technology and engineering should visit with these companies, as they may be able to refer students to company contacts in the areas of sales, marketing, and public relations.

In addition to representatives from companies in the fields of finance, manufacturing, engineering, and technology, there will be representatives from non-profit agencies and organizations. Some companies, such as Kimberly -Clark and Enterprise Rent-A-Car also have possible international assignments once a student is hired by the company.

Careers Day is the key event in the UI's annual "Careers Week." The week's events are also sponsored by the Study Abroad program and International Programs.
