Local student appears with University of Iowa Old Gold Singers
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- (Name) of (hometown) is a member of the popular Old
Gold Singers at the University of Iowa.
(Name), a (class standing) at the UI, sings (voice part) with the group.
The Old Gold Singers is the UI show choir. An ensemble of the UI School
of Music, the Old Gold Singers are led by UI graduate assistant Kevin Kriegel.
The group consists of 28 singers, plus a seven-member instrumental combo.
The Old Gold Singers presented their first performance of the school
year, the annual "Fall Festival," Oct. 9-10. Their next campus
performance will be the holiday favorite "Cocoa and Carols,"
an annual family concert. This year's edition of "Cocoa and Carols"
will be presented at 8 p.m. Dec. 5 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 in Hancher Auditorium.
"Cocoa and Carols" is traditionally one of the most popular
holiday events for Iowa City-area audiences. The program features holiday
favorites, including well-known Christmas carols, and a perennial favorite,
a "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" sing-along.
The Old Gold Singers is a select musical group whose members are chosen
by audition. In addition to "Fall Festival" and "Cocoa and
Carols," their campus performances include the annual "Swing
Into Spring" concert. The group also travels throughout Iowa, performing
for schools and community groups. Past tours outside the state have taken
them to New York, Washington, D.C. and New Orleans.
Tickets for "Cocoa and Carols" will be $9.50 general admission,
$6.50 for UI students, seniors and youths. Hancher box office hours are
10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and
