New director and assistant director named to UI Office of Student
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Office of Student Life has
named a new director and assistant director. Alice Mathis is the new director,
and Mary Ellen Gillespie serves as assistant director of the UI office
formerly called Office of Campus Programs and Student Activities.
Mathis succeeds David Grady who now directs University Life Centers
which is a combination of the old Iowa Memorial Union administration and
the former Office of Campus Programs and Student Activities.
Mathis came to the UI from Chicago State University in Chicago, where
she was director of Student Activities. Previously she served as associate
dean and dean of student life at the State University of New York at Alfred.
Mathis received her master of arts degree from Montclair State University
in Upper Montclair, N.J.
Gillespie, who will serve in her new position as primary advisor to
the Greeks, came to the UI from Plattsburgh State University in Plattsburgh,
N.Y., where she was coordinator of Greek Affairs and Off-Campus Concerns.
She received her master of science degree from Plattsburgh State University.
Mathis and Gillespie will be responsible for improving the quality of
student life at the UI as well as the talents of the diverse student population.
