Family fun planned at IMU Homecoming celebration
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Iowa Memorial Union (IMU), will kick off Homecoming
Weekend Friday, Oct. 9 with an evening of family entertainment, including
a clown, a juggler and puppets.
The free entertainment for children starts at 7 p.m. with Babaloon the
Clown performing on stage in the Wheelroom. During the rest of the evening
he will roam the ground floor, giving away balloons and amusing children
and adults joining the celebration.
At 7:30 p.m., Jim Calkins, a professional juggler and clown will be
on center stage in the Wheelroom on the ground floor of the Union.
Throughout the evening, Ready Freddy, a scooter-riding, fast-talking
puppet will entertain children. In the Landmark Lobby there will be face
painting and a trinket box decorating activity, where children can decorate
a take-home box filled with trinkets and candy.
Beginning at 7 p.m. IMU Food Service will serve fall favorites such
as popcorn, cookies, cider and hot chocolate. Also, the University Bookstore,
Union Pantry and Union Market will be open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
"Everyone is invited to stop in at the Union after watching the
Homecoming parade wind its way through downtown Iowa City, and have some
food and fun before heading outside to watch the fireworks display over
the river later in the evening," said Kay Christy, IMU marketing director.
All of the events are free of charge and open to the public. Parking
is available in the IMU ramp on the corner of Madison and Jefferson streets.
