'Coming Out' support group to meet Mondays beginning Oct. 12 at WRAC

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Coming Out," an eight-week discussion group that will meet Mondays, beginning Oct. 12 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., will explore the joys and concerns surrounding the process of coming out as a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The support group will meet at the Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa, which also sponsors the group.

"Coming out is a life-long process," says Meg Hammes, support group coordinator at the Women's Center. "So, this group places an emphasis on individual integrity without pressure to come out in all areas of the members' life or follow a script. The group gives members the freedom to define themselves, their sexuality, and their spirituality in a community that will maintain all confidentialities."
