Keeping Our Kids Healthy And Safe

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Families and professionals who are concerned about rising levels of violence among our children are invited to attend a telecast, "Bright Futures for Families Keeping Our Kids Healthy and Safe," on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in Room 338, University Hospital School, on the UI campus in Iowa City. The event is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served.

Offered by the National Parent Consortium on Maternal and Child Health as part of National Child Health Month, "Bright Futures" is directed to parents and to professionals who work directly with families. Teleconference participants discuss skills that parents and others can use to prevent violence, such as conflict resolution, after school supervision, discussing media violence with children, and preventing substance abuse.

Members of the National Parent Consortium on Maternal and Child Health include the National Parent Network on Disabilities, HeadStart Resource and Training Center, National Family for the Advancement of Minorities with Disabilities, Institute for Family-centered Care, ACCH Parent Network, and the Family Resource Coalition.
