UI CAMPUS NOTES -- IOWA CENTER FOR THE ARTS

RICHARD HORWITZ READS AT PRAIRIE LIGHTS NOV. 23 -- Richard Horwitz, an American Studies faculty member at the University of Iowa, will read from his new book, "Hog Ties," at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23 at Prairie Lights, 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City.

Horwitz, whose book is subtitled "Pigs, Manure and Mortality in American Culture," worked as a farm hand on a large Iowa pig farm. The book reads as both a memoir of rural life and a commentary on porcine farming, disease and the swine's impact on American politics.

The reading will be broadcast live on radio stations WSUI AM 910 and WOI AM 640 as part of the "Live from Prairie Lights" series.
