UI Cancer Center receives gift from VFW Ladies' Auxiliary
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Iowa Ladies' Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars has made another contribution to the University of Iowa Cancer Center
for cancer research. This year the auxiliary gave $4,000 to help fund the
work of Dr. Raymond Hohl, associate professor of internal medicine in the
UI College of Medicine.
Abby Waller of Eddyville, president of the Auxiliary, presented the
check May 1 to Hohl and Dr. Robert Wallace, director of the UI Cancer Center.
Hohl's research focuses on treatments for brain cancer, which was the
eighth leading cause of cancer death in Iowa last year.
The funds are raised by the 14,000 auxiliary members from throughout
Iowa for specific causes, such as cancer research. The gift was made through
the UI Foundation, the preferred channel of giving to the UI.
