Matt Henderson joins athletics' fund-raising staff
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Matt Henderson of Iowa City has joined the University
of Iowa Foundation staff in the new position of assistant director of athletics
development/I-Club events and activities. Henderson was formerly assistant
director in the University of Iowa's sports marketing office, department
of intercollegiate athletics.
"In addition to his knowledge of Iowa intercollegiate athletics,
Matt brings extensive experience in sports marketing and advertising, corporate
sponsorships, special events planning, publicity and media relations,"
says Mark Jennings, the foundation's director of development for intercollegiate
athletics. "Our other development officers--Andy Piro, associate
director of development for the men's athletic program, and Jana Egeland,
assistant director of development for the women's athletic program--are
looking forward to working with Matt on a variety of events and fund-raising
Born and raised in Cedar Falls, Henderson graduated from the UI in 1991
with a bachelor's degree in physical education. A student internship in
UI Women's Sports Information sparked his interest in college sports administration.
After graduation Henderson became assistant sports information director
at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. Later, he worked as marketing
and public relations coordinator for South Alabama's conference activities/continuing
education program. He also directed the school's summer sports, music
and computer camps.
While at the University of South Alabama, Henderson earned a master's
degree in recreation/sports administration.
In 1994 he returned to his alma mater as assistant director in the Sports
Marketing Office, where he worked until joining the UI Foundation staff
The University of Iowa Foundation, the channel for private contributions
to athletics and all areas of the UI, works with alumni and friends to
encourage support for student scholarships, facilities improvements, faculty
development, and research funds in departments and programs across campus.
