UI CAMPUS NOTES -- IOWA CENTER FOR THE ARTS

POET LANGTON READS JUNE 19 -- Poet Charlie Langton, a graduate of the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, will read from his new book, "Keep Silence, But Speak Out," at 8 p.m. Friday, June 19, in the Prairie Lights bookstore in downtown Iowa City.

The reading will be broadcast on "Live at Prairie Lights," originating on WSUI radio, AM 910.

Langton's poetry has appeared in the Antioch Review, the Iowa Review and other periodicals, as well as in the anthology "Voices on the Landscape, Contemporary Iowa Poets." He now lives in Decorah, and "Keep Silence, But Speak Out," his first book, was published this year by Iowa's Loess Hills Books.

Poet Sandra McPherson says of the volume, "One just doesn't see this level of art in most published books. Each poem is marvelous." And Writers' Workshop faculty member Marvin Bell comments, "Anything Charlie Langton writes is a true report from inside."

The June 19 reading is free and open to the public.
