Wes Butterfield joins UI Foundation

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Westerlund "Wes" Butterfield of Cedar Rapids has joined the University of Iowa Foundation executive staff as director of development for the UI College of Nursing.

Butterfield started June 1 in the position that has been expanded from half-time to full-time. He replaces Alsatia Mellecker, who previously divided her time between the Colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy, and who is now the Foundation's full-time director of development for the College of Pharmacy.

Melanie C. Dreher, dean of the College of Nursing, said, "We're delighted to have Wes as our full-time director of development for the college. His background in institutional advancement in Iowa is highly relevant and includes an excellent understanding of alumni giving."

"Wes's skills will be a tremendous asset during the college's current Centennial Campaign for Nursing Education," Dreher added. "I know that the alumni and friends of the college will be as pleased with his appointment as I am."

Butterfield was formerly associate director of college advancement for Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. He also has served as associate dean of admissions and as an admissions counselor for the college.

Originally from Bronx, N.Y., Butterfield holds a bachelor's degree in history from Cornell College and a master's degree in higher education from the UI.

The University of Iowa Foundation is the preferred channel of support for private contributions to all areas of the University of Iowa. Foundation staff work with alumni, friends and businesses to provide funds for scholarships, equipment and other resources in the College of Nursing and other colleges and programs throughout the UI.
