Release: Immediate

Local student(s) admitted early to UI business school

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- (Student name) of (hometown) is one of fewer than two dozen University of Iowa students admitted to the College of Business Administration early under a new program designed to recognize the academic talent of outstanding students.

Typically students who want to receive a degree from the College of Business Administration take two years of general UI courses and prerequisite classes before being considered for admission to the business school. But under the new program, beginning with the fall 1998 semester, a limited number of first-year students -- those who qualify as honors students -- are allowed to enroll in the college as freshmen.

The move marks the first time in decades that undergraduates who want to graduate with business degrees will be allowed to declare a business major before their junior year at the UI.

As part of admission, (student name) also received (name/description of scholarship) from the College of Business Administration.
