Women's Center offers discussion group on transcending gender stereotypes
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- An eight-week discussion group to explore-and transcend-the
gender stereotypes everyone faces in society will begin meeting Monday,
Feb. 2, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the University of Iowa Women's Resource
and Action Center, 130 N. Madison, Iowa City.
The group, "Finding Our Own Space-Transcending Gender Stereotypes,"
will discuss different topics and will examine how women in the group,
in the community, and throughout history have offered role models.
"Women in our society are faced with a number of stereotypes about
the way they should behave that prevent them from acting the way they would
prefer," explained Shaly Seecharran, group facilitator. "I am
interested in working with a group of women so we can throw aside these
stereotypes and discover our true capabilities."
For more information, or to register for the group, call the Women's
Center at (319) 335-1486.
