Prominent economists to speak in January, February in lecture series at UI

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Several prominent economists from the United States will discuss current research and issues in their fields as part of the Clarence Tow Lecture Series at the University of Iowa College of Business Administration during January and February.

The lectures, which are free and open to the public, are administered by the department of economics and funded through a gift from UI alumnus Clarence Tow.

Lectures are held periodically during each semester from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Pappajohn Business Administration Building (PBAB).

The series provides support for the department of economics to invite leading economists from both the public and private sectors to come to campus to present lectures on their current work and other issues in the academic field of economics.

Tow, who received a bachelor of arts in education and a master of arts in political science from the UI, was a senior vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. After his death in 1994, a $1.5 million fund was established through provisions in his will to support the Tow Lecture Series.

People interested in attending the lectures but needing an accommodation in order to participate should contact the department of economics at (319) 335-0829, or send e-mail to Shari Tolander at shari-tolander@uiowa.edu

Here is a schedule of upcoming events in the Clarence Tow Lecture Series. The schedule is subject to change.
