NOTE TO EDITORS:
Kronos recording, basis of Hancher concert, receives Grammy nomination
The 1998 Grammy Award nominations were announced yesterday, and they
contained a bit of information with significance for the Jan. 24 concert
of the Kronos Quartet in the University of Iowa Hancher Auditorium. (You
have already received a news release about the concert, dated 12/31/97).
The Kronos CD "Early Music (Lachrymae Antiquae)," which is
the basis of the first half of the Hancher concert, was nominated for a
Grammy Award in the "Best Chamber Music Performance" category.
I hope you will be able to insert this information prominently when
you publish a preview of the concert. You may also call me to set up a
Kronos advance phone interview.
For more complete information, you might visit the Grammy Awards site
on the World Wide Web: <http://www.grammy.com/nominees/index.html>.
"Best Chamber Music Performance" is category 87.
While you're there, you might also want to check out category 90, "Best
Classical Contemporary Composition." Aaron Jay Kernis was nominated
for his Second Symphony on the basis of the recording by the City of Birmingham
Symphony. The City of Birmingham Symphony will conclude the Hancher season
with a concert on May 11.
