UI law students host "Law Law Palooza" musical charity
event March 7
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa law students will give the public
a different kind of hearing when they host the annual music festival "Law
Law Palooza" Saturday, March 7 to raise money for an organization
that helps pay the legal costs of people who can't afford lawyers.
This year's Law Law Palooza will be from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday,
March 7 at the Que Bar, 211 Iowa Ave., Iowa City. The event, which is open
to the public, is sponsored by the UI chapter of the Equal Justice Foundation
and raises money for the organization.
Tickets are $5 at the door.
The annual event, which takes its name from the touring rock'n'roll
musical festival "lalapalooza," features several local bands,
many of which are made up of current law students, faculty and staff.
Sara Anderson, a third-year law student and organizer of Law Law Palooza,
says the event's goal is to raise $2,000 for the Equal Justice Foundation.
"This is not a huge money maker, but it is a fun way to support
a good cause," Anderson says. "The Equal Justice Foundation helps
a lot of people, like students, who generally can't afford a lawyer when
they need one."
"Plus, it's our way of showing that law students are interested
in the community around them and in providing help to those who need it
most," Anderson says.
