I-CASH accepting proposals for seed grants
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Each year thousands of children are injured or die
as a result of farming incidents. To help prevent these tragedies Iowa's
Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (I-CASH) is seeking proposals
to award 10 seed grants of $500 each to promote youth safety on Iowa farms.
Awards will be given to develop farm family safety seminars targeting
the prevention of childhood injuries on the farm. In the past these seminars
have been a successful way to motivate parents and children to make the
farm a safer place.
Applications may be obtained by calling Judy Thirtyacre at the UI Institute
for Rural and Environmental Health at (319) 335-4438. Applications must
be received by 4:30 p.m. March 18. It is expected that awards will begin
on or about May 1.
I-CASH is a partnership of the University of Iowa, Iowa State University,
the Iowa Department of Public Health, and the Iowa Department of Agriculture
and Land Stewardship.
