Gloria Naylor to visit UI for lecture on multi-culturalism
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Internationally-acclaimed novelist Gloria Naylor
will visit the University of Iowa to speak on the topic, "Multi-Culturalism
in America," Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Lounge of
the Iowa Memorial Union. The lecture, which is sponsored by the UI Lecture
Committee, is free and open to the public.
One of Naylor's best-known novels, The Women of Brewster Place, was
the 1983 American Book Club Winner and was made into a television mini-series
starring Oprah Winfrey. In addition to the Book Award, Naylor has won Guggenheim
and National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships and a Distinguished Writer
Award from the Mid-Atlantic Writers Association. Naylor has also won numerous
academic honors from universities including Cornell University, the University
of Pennsylvania, and the University of Kent, England.
