UI Space/Place dance concert features faculty, student choreography
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa dance department's traditional
semester-ending production, the Space/Place Concert, will feature a combination
of new student choreography and works created or staged by faculty members
at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4-5, in the Space/Place Theatre of
UI North Hall.
Visiting faculty member Susan Toumine, a veteran of Ballets Canadiens,
will stage two sets of ballet pointe variations -- the Kirov Ballet version
of the pas de trois from "Swan Lake" by Petipa and a variation
from "Carmina Burana."
Charlotte Adams, who joined the dance department faculty this fall,
will set her "Lockjaw" on UI student dancers. This work represented
the University of Nebraska's dance department in last year's American College
Dance Festival regional competition. Adams' specialties are modern dance
and kinesiology with a special emphasis on conditioning and injury prevention.
The student works on the program are "Amazing Grace" by Jennifer
Moore, "The Cricket Dance" and a solo by Shannon Brown, "Over
the Rainbow" by Stacy Kluck, "Anomie" by Adam Andrews and
an untitled work choreographed by Joseph Poulson. The student works on
the Space/Place Concert program are selected by a faculty adjudication
Admission to the Space/Place Concert will be $5 ($4 for UI students,
senior citizens and youth) at the door.
