Student job fair offers opportunities for on-campus employment
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa students interested in on-campus
employment for the fall 1998 semester are invited to attend a Student Job
Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28 in the Main Lounge of the
Iowa Memorial Union.
The fair, sponsored by the University of Iowa Office of Student Financial
Aid, will feature more than 50 employers offering on-campus part-time hourly
positions and work-study positions at both on-campus and a limited number
of eligible off-campus sites. More than 1,700 students attended the 1997
fair, and many received job offers or interviews that day.
The fair is an excellent opportunity for students interested in working
to find out about the variety of jobs available on the University campus
and at qualified off campus work-study sites, said Cindy Seyfer, assistant
director in the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Staff from the Office of Student Financial Aid will be available to
answer questions regarding employment options and to issue the necessary
payroll paperwork for students who are hired that day. Students should
bring a University I.D. card or driver's license for identification purposes
for the payroll paperwork. In addition, students who will be employed
for the first time on campus will need to complete a Form I-9, which requires
a photo I.D. (UI or driver's license) and a birth certificate or Social
Security card for identification purposes.
For more information about the fair, or about part-time or work-study
job opportunities, contact the student employment area of the Office of
Student Financial Aid at (319) 335-1460.
The Student Job Fair is one of a series of activities taking place during
"A Hawkeye Hello!" This annual event has been extended from
one to two "Weeks of Welcome" and is designed to welcome new
students and help them become acquainted with campus and welcome returning
students back to campus.
