Public, UI students are invited to audition for 1998-99 performing ensembles

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Auditions have been scheduled for several 1998-99 University of Iowa performing ensembles in music, theater and dance, including ensembles that are open to participation by members of the public as well as UI students.

Public auditions will be held for University Theatres fall productions 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30 in Theatre B of the UI Theatre Building with callbacks posted Monday, Aug. 31.

A detailed University Theatres audition guide is available from the UI department of theatre arts in the Theatre Building, by phone at (319) 335-2700, or by fax at (319) 335-3568. Auditioners must sign up in advance for an audition time on the Theatre Building callboard. A sign-up sheet will be posted at noon Monday, Aug. 24.

No affiliation with the department of theatre arts or the UI is required to participate in University Theatres productions, and theatre arts majors are not given special consideration in auditioning or casting. The department is committed to "non-traditional" casting except in cases where a character's race, gender, handicap or age is stipulated in the script.

Theatre arts faculty members will offer an audition workshop at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 26 and 27, open free of charge to all interested persons.
