UIHC sponsors seminar on the latest advancements in breast disease
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Area women are invited to a free seminar discussing
breast disease, detection methods, and prevention on April 29, sponsored
by the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as part of its centennial
Health for Your Lifetime: Prevailing Against Breast Cancer is the second
in a series of educational seminars planned this year. The free session
is scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn, 1220 First Ave., Coralville.
In addition, the University of Iowa Cancer Information Services will be
available for free consultations between 6:30 and 7 p.m. as people register.
The seminar will feature three University of Iowa physicians: Carol
Scott-Conner, M.D., Ph.D.; Peter Jochimsen, M.D.; and Catherine Kusnick,
M.D. Scott-Conner, professor and head of the department of surgery, will
discuss breast disease and breast cancer, both innocent and malignant.
Kusnick, assistant professor of radiology, will focus on the latest in
detection methods. Kusnick will provide information on mammography, ultrasound
and core biopsy.
Jochimsen, director of surgical oncology and professor of surgery, will
explain the effects of tamoxifen and other therapies that are available
