Local UI medical student accepted for residency

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- (Name of student), a University of Iowa medical student from (hometown), will begin residency training after receiving the doctor of medicine degree from the UI College of Medicine this May.

(Name) will enter a yearlong residency program in (specialty) at (institution and location) before proceeding to additional residency training. After earning their M.D. degrees, new physicians typically spend three to five years training in the specialties of their choice.

The National Residency Matching Program helps most medical students secure places in these training programs. (Name) is one of 168 UI medical students who learned on March 18 where they will spend their residencies.
