UI doctoral accounting student awarded scholarship
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa doctoral student Greg Sierra has
been awarded one of 18 national $10,000 KPMG Peat Marwick Foundation Minority
Accounting Doctoral Scholarships for the 1997-98 academic year. The scholarship
is renewable for up to five years at $10,000 a year.
Sierra completed his undergraduate work at St. Louis University with
a bachelor's degree in biology. Prior to beginning doctorate program at
the UI, he was a graduate assistant at St. Louis University where he graduated
with a master's degree in finance this spring. He will study financial
accounting and capital markets at the UI.
Started in 1993, the Minority Accounting Doctoral Scholarship Program
is part of a commitment by the KPMG Peat Marwick Foundation to increase
minority representation, not only in accounting programs at colleges and
universities, but in the American work force as well.
The program awards scholarships to deserving doctoral candidates of
African, Hispanic and Native American ancestry.
