UI offers workshop for parents and teachers April 4-5
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa will offer a credit workshop
designed to improve the skills of parents and teachers in counseling middle
school and high school students Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5 at
several Iowa sites using the state's fiber optics network.
(Hometown) is one of the sites where the counselor education workshop,
"Counseling Techniques for Working with Middle and Secondary School
Students: Skills for Educators and Parents," will be available on
the Iowa Communications Network.
The course will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday, April 4 and
from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5. The two-day workshop provides
one semester hour of graduate or undergraduate credit.
Tuition is $103 for undergraduate credit and $163 for graduate credit.
Advance registration is required.
The workshop, sponsored by the UI Division of Continuing Education Off-Campus
Courses and Programs, is designed for teachers and parents, but school
administrators, social workers, counselors, psychologists, and other professionals
who work with children may also be interested in the session.
Richard Dustin, professor of counselor education, and Stewart Ehly,
associate professor of psychological and quantitative foundations of education,
both of the UI College of Education, will be the instructors for the workshop.
