UI appoints first preventive nutrition professor
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa College of Medicine has named
its first professor in preventive nutrition.
Dr. Linda Snetselaar has been named associate professor and director
of the college's project in preventive nutrition. As director, she will
help integrate nutrition education into all four years of the college's
The professorship was established in 1995 by Midland Dairy Association,
the Iowa Beef Industry Council and the Iowa Pork Producers Association.
The industry councils gave the College of Medicine $500,000 to develop
an education project in preventive nutrition.
Snetselaar will continue to work with internal medicine and pediatrics
research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health. She has
been an adjunct faculty member in the UI's departments of internal and
preventive medicine for 12 years. She received her bachelor's degree in
dietetics from Iowa State University and her master's degree in nutrition
and doctorate in health sciences education from the UI.
