Art historian to speak

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Michael Fried, an internationally known art historian from Johns Hopkins University, will speak on the topic, "Some Thoughts on Caravaggio," at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6 in the Becker Communication Studies Building, Rm. 101.

Fried also will lead a public discussion on Joseph Conrad's book, "The Secret Agent" and literary impressionism from 3:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. Friday, March 7 in the English-Philosophy Building, Rm. 308.

Fried has written books on American modernism, the painters Courbet and Manet and the realist tradition in French painting. Both of his scheduled appearances, sponsored by the University of Iowa English department, are free and open to the public.
