Death of Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Jae-On Kim, University of Iowa professor of sociology and director of the Center for Asian and Pacific Studies (CAPS), is available for comment on the political and social implications of the death of 92-year-old Chinese leader

Deng Xiaoping, who is reputed to have "opened China's economy to the world while maintaining strict ideological control."

UI's Kim is an expert on political sociology in Asia, particularly in China and Japan, and is currently researching survey data regarding political and economic issues in China.
