Local UI student receives master's degree in physical therapy

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- (Student's name), the (daughter/son) of (parents) of (hometown) recently completed a master of physical therapy (MPT) degree at the University of Iowa. (Student) holds a bachelor's degree from (college/university). (He/she) was one of 35 students recognized by the UI Physical Therapy Graduate Program at convocation ceremonies held Nov. 14. The convocation address, "Meeting New Challenges," was delivered by Richard Shields, assistant professor of physical therapy. Kimberly Bakalyar, Carol Hunt and Rachel Ver Hoef spoke as representatives of the graduating class.

Completion of the MPT program makes (student) eligible to take the state licensing examination necessary to practice physical therapy. This year the university's MPT program was ranked as the second best physical therapy graduate program in the United States by U.S. News and World Report magazine.
