Silverwork by Chunghi Choo and students is displayed for Hancher's 25th
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- An exhibition of silverwork and jewelry by Chunghi Choo
and her students in the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History will
be on display Sept. 12-27 in the lobby of UI Hancher Auditorium. The exhibition,
which is part of Hancher's silver anniversary celebration, will also feature
pieces by visiting faculty member Donald Friedlich.
Photographs of Choo's silverwork are featured throughout the brochure for
Hancher's 1997-98 season, to emphasize the silver anniversary theme. The exhibition
opens with Hancher's first 1997-98 event, the jazz concert featuring Nicholas
Payton, Joshua Redman and Christian McBride; continues through the Silver
Anniversary Gala featuring Simon Estes on Sept. 16, and subsequent events;
and closes after the performances by American Ballet Theatre Sept. 26-27.
A free event in Hancher -- the concert by the University Symphony Orchestra
at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 -- will occur during the exhibition.
A world-renowned silversmith, Choo is the F. Wendell Miller Distinguished
Professor in the UI School of Art and Art History. Her work, pioneering the
use of new materials and techniques, has helped to make the UI a prominent
center for metalsmithing and jewelry making.
Choo's work is found in the collections of Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris,
the Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and other major museums in the
United States and Europe.
The free Hancher season brochure featuring photographs of Choo's work is
