UI faculty promotions approved by State Board of Regents

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The State Board of Regents has approved promotions and/or tenure for 100 members of the University of Iowa faculty and four adjunct faculty members for the 1997-98 academic year.

Among the 94 faculty members granted both promotion and tenure, 36 are women. That is an increase over last year, when 31 women were granted both promotion and tenure. In all, six women were promoted to full professor, 25 were promoted to associate professor, four who were already at the rank of associate professor were granted tenure, and one woman was promoted to associate professor, clinical track.

This year's promotions bring the number of tenured women on the UI faculty to 242. Women now represent 22 percent of the tenured and tenure-track faculty at the UI.
